Meet Author: Anne Patrick -- Journey to Redemption

Lynne at goodreads.com rated Journey to Redemption 5 stars

From the first sentence in the first chapter I was captivated by this book and couldn’t stop reading till I was finished. Ms. Patrick has written a spine tingling , page turning novel. If you like good cleanly written mysteries, then I recommend grabbing a copy of “Journey To Redemption” and as the old saying goes ”Enjoy The Ride” because once you start you won’t want to put the book down till you are finished. Coming soon Sept 15th,2009

What or who inspired you to start writing?
My mother was and still is my biggest inspiration. Unfortunately she passed on two years before I was first published. I know she's still cheering me on though. I was offered my first book contract the day before Mother's Day two years ago.

How did you come up with your idea for Journey to Redemption?
To be honest, I don't remember. My ideas come from lots of places. I've dreamed them, they've popped into my head while out walking. The good ones take awhile to evolve into a story. I'll write them down and if they continue to haunt me then I'll run with it. The story I'm working on now came to me while I was mowing my yard.

What expertise did you bring to your writing?
Having a variety of jobs over the years has come in pretty handy. Working with the public I drew on my experience with different personalities. Working as a transport specialist (transporting prisoners to jail, court, etc) I received firsthand experience with some interesting characters that have benefited me a great deal. Having a cop for a cousin also helps.

What would you want your readers to know about you that might not be in your bio?
I'm an animal lover. Most of my stories has a furry character in it.

As far as your writing goes, what are your future plans?
To keep writing and improving my craft. I have three more books coming out next year and hope to keep up that pace as long as the ideas keep flowing.

If you could be one of the characters from this book, who would it be and why? Morgan. I've made decisions, as I'm sure we all have, that I sometimes later regret. But we usually don't end up paying for them the way she does.

Can you give us a sneak peak into this book?
Morgan & Chase must race against the clock to find answers she doesn't want revealed or the serial killer accused of killing her husband is going to kill her son.

Do you belong to a critique group? If so how does this help or hinder your writing? I live in a very small town, so no. I do have a host of online author friends though. My biggest help comes from a editor/writing coach who has been working with me for a couple of years now. She is brutally honest, and has helped me grow tremendously as a writer.

When did you first decide to submit your work? Please tell us what or who encouraged you to take this big step?
I've written stories since high school but I never let anyone except my mother read them. A few years before she passed on, she came to me after reading a suspense novel and said, "You can write better stories than this." Although she had been encouraging me for years, for some reason her words finally sunk in and I started submitting my work.

What is the best and worst advice you ever received? (regarding writing or publishing)
My writing coach/editor told me a while back not to take rejections personally, that publishers reject works for a number of reasons that may not have anything to do with your writing style or ability. After that I challenged myself to send out three queries for every rejection I got. It worked!

Do you outline your books or just start writing?
I'm a 'panster'. I don't plan anything. If I do happen to get stuck, I will write a brief outline of how I got to where I am and that usually gives me a kick in the pants to keep going.

Anything else you might want to add?
Never give up on a dream.

  1. Great interview! I thought it was interesting that you don't plot our your stories. Sort of like starting out on a road trip without an atlas:). You did an awesome job with Every Skull Tells a Story. My wife and I both loved it. We can't wait to read your new one. Best of luck to you!

  2. Now me, I need a road map of a plot so I can figure out how to get from point A to point B.

But your system works for you, and that's all that matters! :) Keep it up! :)

  3. Three books coming out next year?? What a hard worker. I love it when authors include pets in their work-esp with personality. It sounds like you are on the right path and I wish you the best of luck with all of these new releases!
